Newport is a wonderful place to base yourself so you can see the sights and enjoy all the fantastic things to do on the Isle of Wight, and if you are travelling here on business you’re able to get to all the professional, service and distribution sectors, as they are mainly located in Newport. The Council, public services, St. Mary’s Hospital, the Isle of Wight College and Law Courts are all in Newport.

Newport also offers a good range of entertainment both during the day and most evenings. There is a multi-screen cinema just a few minutes walk from One Holyrood, with the Medina and Apollo Theatres both offering a range of shows at various times of the year, and there are also a number of late-night venues located on the High Street.

There's a vibrant arts centre - Quay Arts Centre, just a stone’s throw from One Holyrood, Newport is the shopping hub on the Isle of Wight. The town is filled with shops that you normally come across in most high streets across the UK. There are plenty of independent shops to check out too, wander down the smaller roads for little boutique shops filled with gorgeous clothes, and unique pieces of jewellery and souvenirs to take home.

This historic town of Newport centres on two elegant squares, and there is a medieval quarter, with an unusual grid street layout, where One Holyrood is located. Opposite One Holyrood is the Island’s own famous Hurst’s Ironmongery store.  Here you are still served by staff who are happy to sell you a single screw!  Such a unique place.

With so much to do on your doorstep and great places to shop, Newport has everything you might need for a relaxed, laidback holiday on the Isle of Wight.

The Isle of Wight is brimming full of history too – Carisbrooke Castle, Osborne House, Roman Villas have all been well preserved and opened up to the public. Fill your holiday exploring these historic locations from your base in Newport.

If you are a sailor and visit the Isle of Wight, if you catch the tides right, you can sail up the Medina Estuary from Cowes and enjoy a meal at One Holyrood.

For families, Robin Hill Country Park is just outside of Newport, and is the perfect place to visit to let kids play and run around.

For those who love music and festivals, the Isle of Wight Festival is located in Newport and is one of the UK's longest-running music festivals, each year bringing over 90,000 music fans to the island for a weekend of rock, pop and dance. Isle of Wight Festival has been cancelled this year but will be back stronger than ever on the 17th-20th June 2021. One Holyrood is the perfect place to stay for this event! We advise on booking early
